We are a fun, quirky family of four with three cats and two fish. We love exploring the world through art, reading and playing outside. Our son is 4 and our daughter is 7. Dad works in the city and Mom has an office in the house. We are primarily looking for someone to care for our son - pick him up from his preschool in South Orange, drive him home to Maplewood or to other activities, and play, play, play.
I am seeking a 2017-2018 after school sitter starting September 5th for two children: a boy, 10, going into 5th grade and a girl, 8, going into 3rd grade. The provider would be responsible for taking them to practices as needed or preparing them for their carpools (they both play travel soccer), assisting them with and ensuring their homework is done, ensuring the house is as it was left that morning, and some meal prep. I pay on a weekly basis and there are opportunities for more hours, overnights, etc.
We are very close and a laid back crew. Ultimately, I want someone fun and who loves kids (they want to be with kids, not just a pay check) but also responsible to ensure the kids activities and homework are done and run smoothly and whom I can trust. This person is a lifeline and an important piece to making sure the kids are cared for, healthy, and not missing a beat of these exciting years.
My oldest two are boys with afterschool and evening sports, a daily dogwalking gig, and a serious video game addiction. My ideal sitter builds a good rapport with them to ensure the homework is done before the Xbox or smartphone games go on. They're pretty easy otherwise. My daughter is 7 and as such needs the most supervision--she loves to draw and play, has dance class once a week, and also needs some help getting homework finished of course.
Sitters generally report that my kids are nice and easy. (They're nicer to you than me, apparently.)
Ben and I got married almost two years ago back home in Washington state. We met in Portland, Oregon and started our journey together by moving to Boston, MA for Ben's work, while I continued my work there as a massage therapist. After a couple of years, Ben's job has taken him to Manhattan, where we decided to settle down for a while and buy a house in New Jersey. We miss our friends and family back home, but are enjoying this time together with our daughter, Harper, who was born on March 1st. As a family we enjoy traveling, going on day trips to the beach, and entertaining friends in our new house. We also have a little furry friend, a two year old cat named keekee, who is a Maine Coon. She is sweet, but pretty shy around strangers.
In our very rare free-time, now that we have an infant, Ben enjoys golfing and I enjoy practicing yoga. We are fun and genuinely friendly people, who are just searching for a little bit of help with our new addition. Harper is sweet, and beginning to be quite the social butterfly. She's snuggly, loves to be held, and loves to really play and interact with whoever is hanging out with her.
